ESRD Quality Incentive Program
“The first of its kind in Medicare, this program changes the way CMS pays for the treatment of patients with ESRD by linking a portion of payment directly to facilities’ performance on quality of care measures.”
The End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Quality Incentive Program (QIP) provides an important lever for safety, value, and quality for CMS by promoting high-quality care delivered by outpatient dialysis facilities treating patients with ESRD.
The first of its kind in Medicare, this program changes the way CMS pays for the treatment of ESRD patients by linking a portion of payment directly to facilities’ performance on quality care measures. The ESRD QIP will reduce payments to ESRD facilities that do not meet or exceed certain performance standards.
The ESRD QIP relies upon facility-provided data in CROWNWeb for a number of its measures. CROWNWeb is the primary data source for some ESRD QIP measures, and is a supporting source of data for many others.
For more information about the program, see http://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/ESRDQIP/index.html.
If you have questions about the program after reviewing this content, you may reach the CMS ESRD QIP staff by emailing ESRDQIP@cms.hhs.gov.
Closed renal dialysis facilities located in FEMA designated hurricane disaster areas will be exempt from reporting ESRD QIP clinical and reporting measures from September through December, 2017. Read the full memo here.
New End-Stage Renal Disease Quality Incentive Program (ESRD QIP) Reporting Deadlines in CROWNWeb
The Calendar Year (CY) 2017 End-Stage Renal Disease Prospective Payment System (ESRD PPS) Final Rule requires facilities to report in CROWNWeb prior to the close of the clinical month, rather than by a specific date. In the future, all CROWNWeb reporting and attestations for the ESRD QIP will be due by the closure of the last clinical month of the reporting period in for CROWNWeb.
The first reporting period of the ESRD QIP Payment Year (PY) 2019 Pain Assessment and Follow-Up reporting measure is now August 31, 2017, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. For future deadline information, please refer to the monthly editions of the CROWNWeb Newsletter or this page.
